GCSE
GCSE Archaeology has been withdrawn by AQA, the
examining board which has been offering it.
A pilot Vocational GCSE in History will be trialled from September
2006 in 50-60 schools and colleges. This will include minor elements
archaeology in the short course with the option of doing a module
in archaeology for the full GCSE.
The proposed structure is:
3 compulsory modules for 50% of the GCSE or 100% of the
short course GCSE.
Medieval England (choice of 3 periods between 410-1485)- Includes
contrast between Historical and Archaeology sources.
An International study
A Local study (could include some archaeology sources)
3 option modules from a choice of 6-8 for the remaining
50% of the full GCSE.
Amongst the proposed option is an archaeological study. Other options
may focus on the work of museums or the management of historical
buildings.
