Datasets in SPSS Portable Format

The datasets below have been saved in 'SPSS Portable' format that is used to ensure that it can be opened on as many different computer systems as possible. These datasets should only be used if you are having problems opening the main datasets provided.

One problem with the SPSS Portable format is that it does not always maintain the definitions of what each type of variable is as set in Variable View (see Figure 1.17 in the book). Once you have downloaded and opened each of the datasets in SPSS Portable format you must check that each variable is defined properly as either nominal, ordinal or scale. This information is provided in the descriptions of variables for each dataset that can also be downloaded.
