Student/Practitioner Self-care and Reflection

As in all crisis work, self-care and thoughtful reflection on one’s work and attention to the potential psychic toll it can exact on practitioners is especially important in work with victim/survivors and perpetrators. The examples in Chapters 11 and 12 of “wounded healers” amply underscore this point and the increasing attention being paid to programs addressing vicarious traumatization and burnout among practitioners. The following material for such anticipatory and preventive measures are designed to avoid such burnout or perhaps even abandoning work in this field for emotional survival reasons.
