Resources for the Shared Journal Process

“Resources Related to Steps of the Shared Journal Process” provides templates, video clips, strategies to use with technology, and PowerPoint presentations of each step of Shared Journal. Rather than providing information from one teacher's classroom, this section provides examples from several teachers who have used Shared Journal for many years. These examples serve to show that Shared Journal can be modified to fit the students' and teachers' needs. Some of the examples are video clips. The videos are authentic representations of real classrooms — as opposed to “professionally” shot videos. They include recordings of students engaged in Shared Journal. The authors chose to include these videos because they wanted teachers to see Shared Journal in real classroom settings.

As teachers and students view the photos and videos, they must remember and be respectful of the fact that real children and their teachers are sharing stories of their lives in their classrooms. The videos were made during a typical day of sharing rather than a staged sharing with professional photographers. These teachers and children welcomed the opportunity to be recorded so that they could show others how much Shared Journal meant to them.
