Module 38: Motivation – additional pupil notes
There is an additional game for pupils using the poetry grid, and includes examples of work to inspire and kickstart original poetry writing.
Module 33: Ways of looking – additional pupil notes
This contains further games and ideas to complement the activities in Module 33, and the use of Figure A (an illustration of a man and a woman), taken from the main book.
Module 25: Am I aloud? – additional pupil notes
This additional material provides two original poems for pupils to read aloud, either as groups or individually, and gives additional hints and tips for effective reading aloud.
Modules 17–16: Alliterative phrases and kennings – additional teacher notes
These additional notes give the history behind alliterative phrases and kennings, explaining their Anglo-Saxon origins. This can be used as additional information for pupils, or in the wider curriculum to tie literacy to other curriculum subjects.

Module 7: Haiku – additional teacher notes
This additional material explains the history of haiku, pinpointing the most important pioneers in haiku poetry. The subject of tanka poetry, a Japanese subdivision of waka poetry, is also covered, with instructions for creating tanka poetry with pupils.
Module 7: Haiku – additional pupil notes
These additional notes for pupils explain haiku and tanka poetry in full, and contain a number of engaging examples for pupils to read. An activity – 'Creating a haiku chain', which can be played in a group – is included, with full instructions.
Module 6: Worsery rhymes – additional pupil notes
This contains information about using extended metaphors in poetry, again with suggested examples for pupils to read. There is also information about how pupils can 'copy' the style of famous poets, to create their own inspirational pieces of writing.
Module 5: Genre poems – additional teacher notes
These additional notes are intended for teachers to use to help their pupils find inspiration, either through the use of memories, or by following the lead of historical characters.

Performance poetry – additional pupil notes
This section includes notes for teacher and for pupils about poetry performance. Figure B relates to the information in the notes, and needs to be handed out with the Performance poetry section. The notes for teachers give useful tips for encouraging pupils to perform poetry, as well as a number of online resources with further information. The notes for pupils provide include an engaging example of how poetry may be performed 'out loud' rather than just 'read'. They give hints and ideas for pupils about performing poetry, including the use of props, music and audience participation.
Poetry library
The Poetry library contains all the original poetry by the author mentioned within the book. It can be used to complement the book, as additional reading for pupils, or as poetry for pupils to perform.
Among others, it includes the poems 'Donna didn't come back', 'Listen', 'If I were James Bond for a day...'.
